DUTCH WEEK 3
The third and final week for the Dutch guys kicked off with a good change in weather conditions, and after last weeks cold, frosty weather, it was just as well. This was to be partly a family event, with Frenk from Carpmania.nl and his good friend and fishing companion Raymond, accompanied by their teenage kids Joey and Dylayla (and Big Mikey who’s a 6 foot 20st grown-up guy who never grew up, but lovable all the same ! ).
Mild nights, and daytime temperatures well in the teen’s, slowly improved the fishing as the week progressed, and all the guys caught well, although the continued use of plastic corn hook-baits (due to the exceptional result of Dutch Week 1 - 190 fish) probably should have been varied. I’m sure the result was due to the warm but strong Southerlies, rather than the the baiting plan.
Top of the list for numbers of fish banked, was Big Mikey in Gordy’s swim, who landed 13 fish in total. Mikey took 8 fish over 30lb with 6 – 30’s to 39lb 10oz , and topped the week off with a couple of 40lbers at 41lb 12oz and 42lb 14oz. Mikey fished alone (the Dutch here usually pair up), unfortunately his fishing partner for the week, Jelle, had a family bereavement and couldn’t make the trip, and was greatly missed (all our best Jelle at this sad time, and we look forward to seeing you next time).
The larger fish seemed to favour the Island areas, and Stefan & Wibo in Far & Away swim took the Loins share of their 14 fish from the areas around the Island. Included in the catch were 6 fish over the 35lb mark, and 3 – 40’s at 40lb 12oz , 48lb 6oz and the weeks equal best of 52lb 12oz and a P.B. for the guys. During the week their thoughts were with Jelle, and they collected some rather unsavoury items in a bucket for their absent friend ! (I have been informed that when these boys are together, its like something from ‘Jack-Ass’, needless to say I checked the swim pretty quick on Saturday morning to make sure the offending bucket had in-fact departed with them. It had ……. poor Jelle ! ! ).
Further down the bank in Renamed swim, Bas & Maarten ,(who make up the 4th and 5th Members of the Dutch ‘Jack-Ass’ team) didn’t fair as well as their friends, but still managed to bank 7 fish and break the 40lb barrier. 2 good 30’s at 38lb 8oz and 39lb 10oz, and a 42lb 14oz specimen were included in the week, and the guys went home more than happy at their first attempt on the water.
Opposite in McVities swim, Nico & Jean Paul enjoyed a 17 fish haul, with 8 over 30lb. 5 – 30’s to 38lb 8oz, and 3 – 40’s at 42lb 2oz , 45lb 6oz and 49lb 8oz completed a productive week for the pair.
After his successful session on Dutch Week 1 (76 fish between 2 anglers), Dutch trips Organiser, Frenk (and fishing partner Raymond, who is always chilled) sat back and enjoyed a week with their Kids.
Good food (Frenk was once a top chef), a 4 Bivvy City in Moorings swim, and a relaxed approach to the fishing (if that’s possible for Frenk), and they still managed to bank the weeks equal best Mirror at 52lb 12oz, and, the weeks largest Common of 41lb 12oz …………. Well done guys.
A Big thanks to All the Dutch guys. The Drive & Survive obviously creates more rubbish with food preparation on the banks, but the boys did a great job of keeping the place clean. (though their recycling efforts were, at best, average, considering its gonna be the first country under water, when the Ice cap melts due to Global warming ! !). No fouling of the surrounding land was evident (Strictly Forbidden) as all of it went back to Holland in ‘the Bucket’ . . .Go ‘Jack-Ass’ ! ! quickly…..
A mild week is predicted for the following week, our last week of the season, when we have 4 English Regular Drive & Survivors who are a little more sedate, hopefully. Watch this space ! !

DUTCH - WEEK 2
For those following the Dutch results, and reviewing how the lake fishes during the Drive and Survive period, in the months of October, will not fail to notice the big contrast between last weeks results and those of this week. The fact is that as last week drew to a close, there was a big change to the weather conditions. The previous weeks very mild Southerly winds, with night temperatures in the teens, gave way to strong, bitterly cold North Easterlies, and early morning frosts.
Inevitably, the fishing suffered for these conditions, and the catch rate dropped somewhat. You can’t change the weather, and unfortunately some of the Dutch guys, at the shallower end of the lake, on the end of the wind, did struggle somewhat. The Dutch draw for swims many weeks before arriving at the lake, and unfortunately, reading the weather at the time of fishing, for swim choice, is not an option . . . . as the British say . . . . Ye pays ye money , ye takes ye chance ! !
The guys who did fair well, were those fishing the deeper parts of the lake, and at the back of the wind. In Renamed swim, trip sponsor Gerrit a.k.a. Coqueloke (Cockroach !) and his fishing partner Wesley managed a commendable 30 fish , all at range (95 – 105yrds) and in the deeper water towards S.O.S. and St Tropez swims. In all the pair took 14 fish over 30lb with 7 of these over the magical 40lb mark, including fish of 40lb 12oz, 41lb 12oz, 41lb 14oz, 47lb 6oz, 48lb 6oz, 48lb 10oz and 49lb 8oz. The winning method again for all the Dutch Guys was a mixture of Pellet, Sweet Corn and small + broken boilies.
Most fish of the week were taken from Gordy’s swim, where Fred and partner Michel took 32 fish and one of the prized Red Carp at 20lb 14oz. 16 of the carp were over 30lb and the guys also managed 3 over 40lb at 41lb 14oz, 47lb 6oz and topped the week off with a 48lb 6oz beauty.
New visitors to the lake, Father and Son team Fred & Patrick, took up residence in Moorings swim and enjoyed a 14 fish catch. The pair did manage to get into some of the better fish of the week, and 10 of the 14 caught were over 30lb, with 4 over the 40lb mark. They did manage both the largest Mirror and the Largest Common of the week at 49lb 14oz and 42lb 14oz respectively, well done guys, not bad for the first visit, and I’m sure we’ll see you again . . .
As I write this, the 3rd Dutch week has started. The colder weather continues through the weekend, but a change is due on Tuesday, with warmer South Easterlies arriving. It will be interesting to see how the change effects the fishing . . . . watch this space ! ! !

THE DUTCH INVASION !
The all inclusive weeks have now ended, and so begins the Drive & Survive weeks. The Dutch anglers, having had an exceptional week in Mid-March, due to very mild conditions for the time of year, booked well in advance and have managed to secure the lake for 3 weeks, and once again, the weather has been very kind to these guys.
After nearly 4 weeks of light NE winds and High pressure (see last 3 reports), the weather took a major change, and the Netherlanders arrived to brisk South-Westerlies, which turned to near Gale force by mid-week. The extra influx of Oxygen (after the dry summer) and mild night time temperatures, brought the fish on to their winter feeding spell, and the guys on the end of the wind had a Bonanza ! !
The Dutch Guys always pair up, and the rods and runs are shared, so the report will be as pairs !
On the Lodge front in Gordy’s swim, Trip Organiser, Frenk van Velthoven a.k.a. Mr Carpmania, and fishing partner Rudd ‘the Tukken’, had an exceptional result, hauling an incredible 76 fish in total. Sensibly listening to the advice, and fishing no further than mid-range (85 yards Max.) allowed the fish to move freely between the Dam and open water, and the pair caught from the start, until the final hour, in which they managed the largest fish of their session at 51lb 2oz (Bruiser). The winning method was a combination of mixed pellets, sweet corn and broken boilies, fished tight to the hook baits. Included in the catch were 22 – 20’s , an incredible 51 fish over 30lb, including 38 – 30’s and 13 over the 40lb mark (including a Common at 43lb 2oz), with 2 - 50lb+ crackers at 50lb 10oz and the 51lb 2oz beauty. Frenk returns in 1 weeks time for the 3rd Dutch trip, with son Joey, and he can’t wait to get back! !
Again on the Lodge front in Moorings swim, taking advantage of the SW winds, and keeping the rods at medium range (75yrds Max.), Roy and Patrick shared a 45 fish catch, using the same methods and feed patterns. Tight baiting, using pellet, and crushed or broken boilies with a little corn, seems to really come into its own in the later parts of the season, and all the best results have come to this method since the start of September for those willing to make the effort. Roy and Patrick took the advice and landed 15 – 20’s , 27 fish over 30lb with 23 of these over 35lb+ . 7 over 40lb including fish of 40lb 0oz, 40lb 4oz, 40lb 14oz, 41lb 2oz, 45lb 2oz, 46lb 4oz and the weeks best for the pair at 47lb 6oz. Top Angling . . .
Further up the Lodge bank in McVities swim, Henkie and Johan, after their epic session in March, returned for another crack at the biggies, and their prayers were answered in a 29 fish session including 6 over the magical 40lb mark, including fish of 40lb 12oz (2), 41lb 14oz, 45lb 2oz, 49lb 8oz and topped that off with Parallels (early week) at 63lb 10oz. The catch also included 9 30lbers to 39lb 10oz, and although the guys didn’t have the numbers of fish, they spent the week with Big grins on their faces believing that the largest fish trophy was theirs . . . . read on ! !
Pete and Jan on the opposite bank, in Renamed swim, started well, and by early week had managed 9+ fish including 3 over 40lb to 50lb 6oz. A good result, and the guys graciously moved further down the lake to S.O.S. swim, to allow Martijn and Nathan to move down to Renamed from Churchills swim (the top of the lake was very quiet due to the SW winds). Pete and Jan continued to catch in S.O.S. to finish with a shared haul of 28 fish, and the last fish to the bank for the pair, on Friday evening, was non other than . . . Parallels … at 63lb 12oz, just to confirm that the Lady is back to her best, and possibly due for a new best late season, or early next year . . watch this space.
In total Pete and Jan managed 13 fish over 30lb, with 6 – 30’s to 39lb 10oz , 7 fish over 40lb including 40lb 7oz - 45lb 2oz - 49lb 6oz - 49lb 8oz , and 3 over 50lb at 50lb 10oz – 52lb 14oz and 63lb 12oz.
Their move also helped Martijn and Nathan to get amongst the fish , and the guys managed 5 fish including a Mirror of 37lb 6oz, and a Common of 38lb 8oz.
The change in weather really brought the fish on to feed with the wind playing a major part in this. It looks like the weathers due to change again next week, with a colder front moving in from the NE, and some colder nights ahead. Keep Watching ! ! !

THE FINAL BUS WEEK
The final Bus has just departed as I write this, and after a 7 day week for the past 27 weeks (though I did manage a 51lb 8oz Common on a 2 week Hol. In Spain) I must admit myself and John did a little bit of a jig as the Coach pulled away. What really surprises me, is that we get very few bookings after the end of September, and that the lake, as we approach winter, is given over to the Dutch invasion!.
During my fishing years (too many to mention) in late September through October, back in Blighty, I always found that as the temperatures dropped, the fish started thinking of winter, and some excellent catches could be taken, as the fish feed up for the colder months. I suggest you guys out there keep logging on, I will keep you posted on the Dutch results (over the next 3 weeks) week on week.
The High pressure and NE winds continued unabated, and the daytime temperatures continued to be high, but the night temperatures are slowly dropping, with a Friday evening low of about 5 deg.C.
The conditions were good for mi old mate, and stand-in Bailiff, John (Tiny) Shaw, and his Dad, Dave, who chose Churchills 1 & 2 for the week (did yer homework John!). The pair managed 15 fish between them, but it was Dad (Helped I’m sure by the big fella) who had the best result. Breaking his P.B. twice in the week, Dad Dave took 9 fish in total, with 2 crackers of 39lb 8oz, and topped that with a P.B. of 43lb 2oz, John meanwhile worked hard for both the guys, but couldn’t quite break the 40lb barrier and finished the week with 6 fish including 3 over the 30lb mark to a weeks best of 38lb 2oz.
Most fish of the week went to Johnny Taylor, who usually visits the lake with the Drive & Survive boys from the Midlands. Fishing St Tropez, and the advantage of S.O.S. being free, helped Johnny to a 13 fish Haul, including 8 – 20’s, 4 over 30lb including fish of 38lb 12oz and a new P.B. at
43lb 4oz. A locally made Bait ?? did the trick for the Midlands Angler.
The Largest fish of the week went to Colin Bigg , a regular visitor, in Renamed, who caught steadily through the week, for 8 fish. 4 over the 30lb mark were banked by Colin, to a best of 48lb 6oz with ‘Bruiser’, getting back to her best at just over 50lb, while further down the far bank in Far & Away, John Lyon helped himself to 9 fish, including 3 over 30lb at 32lb+, 37lb 3oz and a beauty at 44lb 9oz.
His mate next door in Kermits, Phil Gray, managed a creditable 7 fish (not bad for a newcomer), including 3 over 30lb with a P.B. at 41lb 4oz … and another convert ! !
Andy Mansfield, on the Lodge front in Kens Dash, managed to pick a few good un’s off, early week, including a 36lb Common, but a short spell of Westerly wind late week, produced a P.B. for Andy in the shape of a Mirror at 44lb 8oz.
Now the Dutch invasion starts ! The ideal conditions are approaching, and some really good catches are due before the cold weather arrives. Don’t believe it ?? what this space ! ! I will keep everyone informed over the next 4 weeks of Drive & Survive ……………. Watch This Space !

GARY’S WEEK
A pretty settled week, with high pressure and a light NE wind, is not really the ideal of conditions for Carp fishing, and although the lake fished very slow early week, one angler really stood out.
Gary Little was on his 3rd trip of the season, and on previous sessions, Gary has done pretty well, using some little tips and tricks from, I believe, his past experiences in match angling.
The Guy took 23 of the 56 fish landed this week, using a roving approach, within the ‘Far & Away’ swim, until finding spots that the fish were willing to feed on (mainly in the silt, as there are numerous bloodworm blooms happening at present). Successful bait was both Trigga and Home made boilies fished tight to the spots.
In total Gary managed 6 – 20’s, 14 – 30’s including 6 – 30’s over the 35lb mark to 39lb 4oz, and as usual Gary took his lions share of the biggies too, with fish of 42lb 8oz , 45lb 8oz and his weeks best of 47lb 4oz …………. Top Angling……
On the Lodge front in ‘Moorings’ swim Johnny Robinson took the Largest fish of the week, amongst a catch of 6 fish, with a peach at 49lb 8oz and 3 others over 30lb. Unfortunately the high pressure and NorthEasterly’s were taking the fish up the lake during the day, and Johnny’s fish were taken during dark and early morning periods, the rest of the day being rather fruitless.
Chris Brown and Ricky Smith worked hard during the week, down in the ‘Swamp’ area of the lake, and their efforts were rewarded with an 11 fish shared haul. Varied distances at range (80 to 105yrds) seemed to work for the guys, and again, I’m sure some of the fish were taken from the silt patches.
Ricky took most of the 7 – 30lbers that the duo landed, but Chris was more than happy with the results, breaking his P.B. three times he now has a P.B. Mirror of 40lb 8oz , and, a P.B. Common of 39lb 12oz and largest Common of the week , what a result for the Guy ! !
Regular visitor, Trevor Anthony, started the week in S.O.S. swim but a move to St Tropez swim only produced a 33lber, so Trev followed his instincts and made the move, on the wind, to Churchills swim. He was rewarded for his efforts with another 30lber at 31lb and the second largest fish of the week at 47lb 12oz. Trevs off home for a rest, I think ! !
Another regular, Kev O’Niell on what was a slow week for the angler, managed to pass a land-mark for the lake. Those who have visited our lake will probably be aware that we have a very small number of Red Carp in our lake (No they are not Koi). Very few of our anglers are ever privileged to see one of these fish, let alone catch one (it took me 6 years…. Doh ). They rarely exceed 20lb, but our Kev’O managed to land one …… and it weighed in at … 21lb 6oz , well done that man, a new record for the lake. Oh, he also managed another 2 fish to 37lb 10oz as well . . . .

CHILL WEEK
No, the title doesn’t suggest that the anglers were relaxed (though looking at the numbers of fish caught, you may think some of them were comatose for the week!). Unfortunately the cold spell this week, with dreary and overcast days, and cool nights, and a significant drop in water temperature, seemed to slow the fishing somewhat.
Early action in the deeper water at the Lodge front, saw Graham Routledge, in Moorings swim, bank a brace of 40lb+ fish at 45lb 3oz and a new P.B. at 48lb 4oz. Unfortunately the action dried up a little, but the early session 48lber remained the largest Mirror of the week and Graham a share in the week’s sweepstake.
Nigel Ludbrook, also in the deeper water, in Sleepy Hollow swim, managed more consistent results throughout the week, and finish with 16 fish, including 8 – 20’s , 6 over 30lb to 35lb 8oz and topped this off with a peach of a fish in the shape of ‘Long Lynn’ the Linear at 45lb 6oz, and fast approaching her previous best weight at 48lb. Fishing medium range in the silt was Nige’s winning method.
I suspect the early week cool North-Easterly, kept the fish mainly at the back of the wind, on the Lodge bank, as the fish log shows all but a handful of fish came from this area. Mark Lavery making this weather count again with an early week lump of 45lb 13oz gracing his net in a 5 fish catch, including a further 2 fish over 30lb.
The only angler seeming to have any consistent action on the far bank was Gary Kenny in Kermits swim. Again I suspect that pressure from the McVities side of the island pushed em over to Gary, who finished the week with 6 over 30lb including 4 over 35lb to his weeks best, just scrapping over the magical 40lb mark.
Churchills swim, didn’t kick off until Wednesday, when a break in the weather helped a little (sorry guys, I really did think the fish would come in close on that wind). The guys stuck to the task, moving out to range, and their persistence eventually paid off late week with Andy Edmunds taking a brace of 40lbers at 40lb 2oz and a P.B. 47lb 8oz in a 6 fish finish ! !
I took my own advice at the lake mentioned last week, and had a poor 3 nights (as did my other 2 French friends). Fishing alone on the end of the North-Easterly, I managed to land a 21lb 8oz Common in amongst 10 Bream!! All you budding Bream anglers out there, get on the Trigga, its amazing for the Slabs . . . . .

6 ANGLERS TAKE 40lb+ FISH
A reasonably sunny week with a light NE wind made for a good week weather wise but the expected fish in Churchills swim on the end of the wind never really materialised, the fish seemed to prefer staying at the back of the wind and dropping into deeper water as the nights are now getting cooler.
Night and morning action in Sleepy Hollow swim produced 9 fish for Mike Bebb. The northern regular took 2 - 20’s, 5 over 30lb including the weeks best Common at 35lb 10oz, and topped that off with 2 – 45lbers at 45lb 8oz and 45lb 10oz.
Further down the Lodge bank Richard Read was enjoying regular day and evening action in Swamp swim. ‘Readey’ had a 13 fish Haul including 7 fish over 30lb to 36lb 10oz, and an early week 44lb 10oz , but the best was to come on the Friday afternoon when the guy pulled out the weeks largest, and new P.B. at 48lb 4oz (‘Whitey’), the fish is fast approaching its previous best of just over 50lb . . . . Watch this space.
Opposite ‘Readey’ in Far & Away swim , new visitor to the lake, Rich Searle, also got into double figures with 13 fish, and what an average at 32lb 8oz. Rich managed 4 – 20’s, 5 over 30lb with 4 of these over 36lb to 38lb 8oz and a further 3 fish over 40 including 40lb 4oz , 40lb 8oz and his best of the week at 42lb 4oz all being new P.B.’s, another convert I’m sure .
Next door in Kermits swim, Nick Poole a.k.a. ‘Stick’ managed 5 fish with 2 over the 40lb mark at 41lb 0oz and a new P.B. of 46lb 10oz, that made it 7 out of the 8 P.B.s taken for the week to the West Country Boys, well done fellas.
Further 40lbers to Glenn Prosser (42lb 4oz) and ‘Mad’ Mick Schofield (47lb 8oz) took the tally of 40’s to 11, not bad for a slightly below average week (the catch rate is at an average of 93 fish per week). I’m off to try a new water next week (Michel Blondeau’s Lac Mary Lou), so will let you know how I get on ………….

ANOTHER TONNE+ WEEK
The Tail end of the Hurricane, way out in the Atlantic, affected most of the Western parts of Europe, and the poor weather that the UK experienced this week, was reproduced all the way down to central Spain. For the lake, that meant some much needed rain and strong Westerly winds, and with the increased Oxygen levels, the fish fed well especially some of our larger residents. A total of 90 fish were banked at an average weight of just over 31lb , and this included 15 of our prized 40lb+ fish.
Largest fish of the week came to father and son team, Ernie and ‘Kryston’s’ Steve Trevett, fishing from ‘Kens’ and ‘Moorings’. Baiting little and often at medium range brought regular success. Steve also tried the Trigga in 25mm with some success . . .
In total the pair managed 17 fish including 6 over 20lb, 6 over 30lb including a cracking P.B.
38lb 5oz Common for Ernie, and … a further 5 fish over the magical 40lb mark, with Dad taking a 42lb 3oz and Steve – ‘stackin em up’ with fish of 41lb 4oz , 42lb 8oz , 45lb 12oz and a new P.B. at 49lb 8oz . . . awesome.
Fishing friends, Ken Copeland , Andy Winson and Ian Booth had whole of the far bank to themselves, and made full use of it too. Starting at the top end in ‘Churchills’ , ‘Far & Away’ and ‘Kermits’ respectively, all 3 guys managed early session fish over 30lb with a beauty for Andy at 46lb 8oz and a Cherpont P.B.
. Most anglers would have stuck it out after such a good start, but as the wind increased, the guys got itchy feet and decided to move on the wind. What a good decision. All the guys managed 40lb+ fish for their efforts, and finished the week with 7 – 40+ in all. Largest fish for the 3 went to Andy in ‘St Tropez’ with a 40lb 2oz mirror and another Cherpont P.B. just under that elusive 50lb mark at 49lb 2oz. Ken wasn’t far behind in ‘S.O.S.’ managing 11 fish in all with 5 over 30lb with 3 of these over 35lb to 38lb 11oz , oh , and 3 – 40lb+ fish at
41lb 2oz , 43lb 3oz and 47lb 7oz and new P.B. for Ken . .
Ian caught consistently thro. The week and led the trio for numbers banked (13 in all), but just craved that one fish over the 40lb mark . . . He needn’t have worried, as the fish were on the munch, and on the final day pulled out an awesome fish of 48lb 13oz and another Cherpont P.B. in the bag.
On the lodge side, at the top end, the winds didn’t deter this area from fishing well, and the largest individual haul came to Andy Hanson in ‘Dogs’. Fishing at a range of 70-75yrds out, Andy managed 19 fish in total , 11 over 20lb and a further 7 – 30lbers with a perfect end to Andy’s week in the shape of a P.B. and the weeks largest Common at 39lb 14oz.
Just up the Bank in ‘U.F.O.’ , Adam Ashfield also had a good week with 9 fish banked, including a new French P.B. in the shape of a mirror of 40lb 14oz , well done fella.
A final mention goes to Dave Fielding and Pete Nutter, who both moved early week, on the winds, to the Dam end in ‘Niagara’ and ‘Gordy’s’. Far bank fishing slowed the activity in the area dramatically, despite the wind ! The guys eventually drew the rods back to mid water and both guys managed final night 40lbers , Pete’s at 40lb 12oz and Dave’s weighing in at 42lb 12oz.
All in all the Lake produced 8 personal bests, not a bad result as most all of the anglers are regular visitors, and the weeks average weight of 31.1lb is nearer to the pre-spawning averages. It seems the fish are pilling the weight back on (note the first day fish of 46lb 8oz for Andy Winson and the late week Friday fish of 49lb 2oz , and you’ll see what I mean !! )

THE MIKE & BERNIE SHOW
Another warm week with little rain and temperatures reaching the high 20’s would normally lead to a slower week. Again the Carp ain’t reading the same text books, and 91 fish were banked to the 11 anglers, including 6 over 40lb to a weeks best of 45lb.
The lake fished well at opposite ends, and both Mike Bromfield (‘Dogs’ swim) and Bernie Heerey
(‘St Tropez’ swim) finished the week with 21 fish each, both anglers taking 40lb+ fish.
Mike started early, taking the first fish Saturday afternoon and just kept on catching regularly throughout the week. Long Range fishing at around the 110yrd mark, with regular baiting, was the winning method for Mike who managed 11 – 20’s , 6 over the 30lb mark to 35lb+, and 2 over the magical 40lb mark at 42lb 4oz , and the weeks best, and sweepstake money, at 45lb 0oz.
At the opposite side, and opposite end in St Tropez, Bernie (see the website Write-up by Bernie) had a similar week to Mike, catching regularly from the off and landed 9 over 20lb, 9 over 30lb including 2 just short of 40lb at 39lb 4oz and 39lb 6oz, and topped these off with a cracking fish of 44lb 4oz. Another 2-3 weeks later and that would probably have been 3 over 40lb, Bernie,s usual tally ! ! !
Varied distances, and alternating between 5 different baited areas, worked well for the guy.
Matt Zaccardelli started the week in ‘Far & Away’, but after a slow start, decided on a move to next door swim ‘Churchills’, and what a move ! Within hour Matt banked a Lump at 44lb 0oz and new P.B. , and also went on to take a P.B. Common too at 30lb 11oz.
Another move also Paid off for Sid James laugh-alike, Eric Wilson. Eric started the week with son Tony in ‘McVities’ , but again, a sensible decision to split up, and Eric moving into ‘Sleepy Hollow’ brought instant success with a fish just over 40lb at 41lb 0oz . . Moving into areas that have been left un-fished, even for just 24 hours, is always a good move on the lake, a tip to remember ! !
Father and son, Paul and Luke Regan teamed up in ‘Renamed’, so as usual, consecutive swim ‘S.O.S.’ was left free to give them room. Luke, who is just a young teenager, opted for the S.O.S. side and what a choice. The pair managed 9 fish between them, and it looked like Dad would be taking the spoils, with 4 of the 6 – 30lb+ fish that were banked. Luke needn’t have worried, as on Friday afternoon he totally upstaged Dad by competently playing and banking (and I must say competently holding and posing for the cameras too!) a cracking Mirror of 43lb 2oz, totally smashing his previous P.B. caught earlier in the week at 33lb. Well done young man , a dedicated Carp Angler of the future for sure . . . . ..
A thoroughly enjoyable week with Eric’s constant laughing becoming infectious . . . we even managed to sort out some new front teeth for the guy (see photo’s)

32 FISH MEGA-HAUL - IN HEAT WAVE !
A week of exceptionally high temperatures, over 100 degrees in the shade at times, a mini thunderstorm, that barely wet the ground, and even a mini tornado in clear blue skys that whipped water off the lake surface, are not what I would call the best of fishing conditions, but, no one told the fish as they continued to feed well, and the group managed 103 fish in total with 8 over the 40lb mark and 7 personal bests included.
The week actually turned into the ‘Gary Little Show,’ as this accomplished angler, who has caught countless 40lb+ fish already from the lake, continued his run of good fortune and passed his landmark 50lb+ with a personal best Mirror of 53lb 8oz in a 32 fish bonanza.
Fishing ‘St Tropez’ on the end of the bar and down the margin, Gary had consistent action throughout the week and 3 fish over 40lb at 43lb 8oz , 44lb 8oz and 45lb 4oz and a further 14 – 20’s and 13 fish over 30lb to 37lb 0oz were banked.. Gary returns to the lake in 4 weeks . . . watch this space.
The Far Bank swims really produced the goods this week and regular visitor to the lake, Steve Croucher, managed to amass a 20 fish total at range in ‘Renamed’. Regular baiting produced consistent action for Steve, who finished the week with 7 – 20’s , 10 -30’s including a P.B. Common of 39lb, and topped all these off with a lump of a mirror at 44lb 0oz… result!
In between Gary and Steve was new boy to the lake, Darren Warbey, though I suspect not new to French fishing. Darren quickly got to grips with ‘S.O.S.’, and amongst a 13 fish result were 7 over 30lb, including a 36lb 12oz P.B.Common. Darren would have been happy with this, but the lake saved the best till last, when Darren banked a cracking Mirror and another P.B. for the guy at 43lb 8oz . . . I’m guessing we’ll be seeing him again soon ! ! well done fella.
On the Lodge front Kev and Leslie O’Neill managed 10 fish from ‘Moorings’. This time around Kev took the largest fish of the week at 43lb 9oz and 39lb 1oz , but Leslie still managed to chalk up 3 over the 30lb mark, and still holds the family’s bests in both the Mirror & Common P.B.s (Leslie banked ‘Petals’ last year at 57lb 6oz). Finally, a mention for Simon Roberts, a regular visitor over the last 2 years. The Guy quietly gets on with it, and always ends up pulling one or 2 lumps from the water, this time around a 46lb 2oz beauty from ‘Dogs’, along with 3 over 30lb in a 9 fish catch.
Despite the prolonged hot period, the fish are still feeding well, and the fish are returning to their better weights, slowly but surely

STORM CHASER’S RETURN
Predictions of weekend storms and the return of the Farlow’s storm chasers (see week 18) had John & myself a little “weather” worried , but, after the Sunday, 4 hour deluged of rain (yea, it always follows em) the sky’s cleared, and the fresh influx of water, and the sunny weather, really turned the fish on to feed. The 11 anglers managed a haul of 123 fish with 9 over 40lb to a weeks best of 45lb 2oz , a couple of really good fish were lost and it can’t be long before the big girls are banked ...
After the rain and as the weather warmed , as usual, Churchills swim erupted in a freanzy of action. Stu Fall and Paul ‘Goldie’ Pleasant took 29 fish in total, with the lions share going to Stu . Early doors saw the pair into smaller fish , but as the temperatures increased, so did the catch rate. The pair ended the week with 11 – 20’s and 9 over 30lb, and, in a purple patch of just 4 hrs Stewy took fish of 40lb 2oz , 41lb 10oz and 44lb 10oz, and also banked a P.B. common, all at 70-75yrd range, in Churchills 2 !
Northern boy Nick Hutton, who followed his friend, and lake record holder Steve Chapman onto the lake (ill health divided the pairs sessions) took sound advice and fished mid range in Mcvities swim. A steady stream of fish , throughout the week, left Nick with a rather big smile and 17 fish . 3 over 40lb including fish of 40lb 0oz , 43lb 0oz and 44lb0oz, and a further 4 fish over 30lb . I apologise, Either the weigh scales are being rounded to the nearest Pound, or, the regulars are still after those elusive 50 & 60lbers and the weight of the 40’s aren’t important any more ! ! !.who knows…..
Largest fish of the week went to Stoney, a regular here and other lakes in France (and DVD star) took S.O.S. to task. The guy well deserves the fish he catches, and worked hard for the 17 fish haul , 6 over the 30lb mark to 39lb 6oz and a 45lb 2oz …. Well deserved Martin.
Not far behind in both the numbers and sizes, was new boy to the lake, Adrian Fautley. Early action of fish to 30lb 8oz had Addy thinking the place was a little easier than predicted, a slower mid-week had Addy fine tuning, the result!, a further 6 over 30lb to 37lb 2oz and a lump at 44lb 8oz. Watch out for the article by Addy in ‘Crafty Carper’, and well done & top angling fella.
Farther and Son team Save and Steve Rust opted for the Lodge front, and Steve managed a new P.B. lump of 42lb 2oz dad took a few too and never stopped singing and smiling.
Malcolm ‘Eggy’ Eggleton took a creditable 15 fish with 3 over 30lb to
35lb 2oz, but after 2 exceptional previous trips, couldn’t get into the larger residents in Moorings, and fishing buddy Gary ‘Cabbage’ Dixon, well, what can I say, if effort always brought results, Gary would have cleaned up. Fishing 4 different swims thro. the week gave the guy 5 fish over 30lb to 38lb 8oz, but still no 40lb+ fish the Gary’s worked so hard to achieve . . . . sorry bud its back to Farlows and the stick I’m sure your gonna get on your return. Keep trying though, it will happen.
123 fish, our third best week so far, top angling …

SUNSEEKER’S WEEK
The Lake played host this week to the ‘SunSeekers’, a group of anglers who were mainly new to the lake (though 2 – 3 had visited us some 9 years ago) , and are employed by a Luxury Boat building firm by the same name. The Group were joined by a few of the ‘Powys Mafia’ , who are regulars , some on their 3rd trip of the year. The weather was mainly kind to all anglers , with some early session Westerlies producing fish for the Dam end anglers , and warmer spells sending fish into the shallower top end. In all, 6 anglers had fish over the magical 40lb mark, and at least 6 new P.B.’s were taken.
Top rod for the week went to Mike Phillips in Sleepy Hollow swim, who helped himself to 18 fish, with 2 over the 40lb mark at 41lb 8oz and 43lb 12oz. Mike caught consistently throughout and managed a further 6 over 30lb and 9 – 20lbers , not a double in sight ! good angling.
On the same Bank, and close behind Mike on the catch front, was ‘Spud’ Arenas, up at the top end of the lake, in U.F.O. and Swamp swim. Spud had a slow weekend, but as the weather heated up, so did his fishing, and he finished the week with 16 fish, including 5 – 30’s to 34lb 8oz and a beautiful
43lb 4oz lump.
On the opposite bank both St Tropez and Kermits swims produced 40’s. Del Gillard quietly put together an 11 fish haul with 6 – 20’s, 3 over 30lb to 38lb and topped that off with a 43lb 0oz kipper, all from St Tropez, while Matt Mapes, in Kermits, followed our advice to feed the Island well in advance of fishing to it. Early in the session, Matt managed a P.B. Mirror at 35lb from mid-range, before switching to his baited area on the Island midweek, and followed his earlier fish with another P.B. Mirror just over the 40lb mark at 41lb 0oz. His catch also included 4 – 20’s, and another 3 fish over 30lb to finish with 9 fish.
On the lodge front, unofficial group spokesman, and practical joker, Paul ‘how’s my lipstick’ Roberts, managed to top the 40lb mark with a 40lb 4oz fish, well done fella , and a mention must go to the Gentleman of the group Chris Furnell. Chris was a little unsure about ‘Niagara’ by the Dam wall, but soon warmed to the swim, as during the weekend he upped both his Mirror and Common P.B.’s to
42lb 4oz, and 28lb 6oz respectively. Chris’s 60th Birthday clashed with the group’s session so a little surprise party, a group Birthday card, and Champagne were organised by the Lady of the group, Judy Blake (who also managed a P.B. of 39lb 12oz from Gordy’s)for the Friday evening meal. Chris confessed that all he wanted was a 30lb fish to make his week’s catch complete. The lake and the carp duly obliged, and Chris landed his 30lber at a scrap over 32lb on Friday night, to give him his wishes.
A nice fish to a deserving guy, hope there are many more Chris….

Norfolk Boys Invade
The weather this week was warm early week, and a mixed bag late week, with clouds and a few spells of NW winds (but no rain), had us expecting a slow week. With a mid week burst of action and the NW wind keeping the temperatures comfortable the session turned out fairly good (maybe the moon-phase – for those interested it was Waxing Gibbous to 80% by the weekend ! ! ).
The early week warm spell, and throughout the late week warmer days Rob Day & Johnny Owen managed a haul of 22 fish from Churchills swim, no 40’s but in a total of 21 fish both anglers had fish over the 30lb mark, Johnny managing 5 over 30lb to 36lb 6oz, and Mark with 3 -30’s to a P.B. of 39lb 8oz , not bad for Mark’s first visit,
Further down the far bank in St Tropez, regular Gary Little had an early start with a cracking 40lb 12oz fish (I help him land it while returning from angler deliveries on the Tractor – OUH AR, OUH AR) ) and a further 41lb 8oz fish were included in Gary’s 12 fish catch, including 7 – 30’s to over 35lb. Poacher Gary did start some ‘Midnite requies’ from St Tropez into Kens Dash and Moorings water (I’m deaf! and I heard the leads land from the caravan !) but !, Jason Sayer & Mark Purser had no problems, as the long lines moved the fish over for short range fishing (40-45yrds) from both Kens Dash & Moorings on the lodge front.
Jason & Mark struggled early in the week in Kens Dash (we did suggest they split up (Jason is recovering from a major back problem and needed help) but the guys stuck at it (lucky sods) and the wind changed, and Gary helped greatly from St Tropez!!! All together the Guys took 22 fish , with Mark taking all of the 5 – 30lb’s , but Jason didn’t mind , he had fish of 42lb and 47lb , result!!!!.
Down in Sleepy Hollow.. Nige Thompson and Rob Hinkins struggled to get the numbers, but fish of 32lb and 35lb 8oz for Rob and a P.B. of 53lb 0oz for Nige sealed a good session for the guys. While further down the bank in Dogs , Swamp & Planet respectively, Pete , Den and Mike ‘the German’ from the Deep South , Eddie ‘the Owners’ Country (I can hear the duelling Banjo’s as I write), Took several good fish, Mike with the Lions share and 10 fish, with 4 - 30’s to 35lb 8oz but Pete took the show with a late session 43lber.
Thanks for the help from the Guys who fish the lake, I’m hoping that, all the bit and bats arrive and all the guys come good with the requests for Tackle from the U.K. (I pull a world record from Spain you’ll all get a mention, (fat angling chance- try a Web search). . . . . . . . . . . . .

FARLOW’S STORM CHASERS !
Its strange , but bad weather seems to follow some people around , never has this been so true than when referring to the Farlow’s Lake away teams. Last year’s first session on Cherpont came to a grinding halt when the Creuse region saw the worst flooding in living memory, and some of our banks were under a foot of water at one point. This year an early season trip to Village De Peche saw some of the guys wiped out by a Tornado ! and one or two were lucky to come away intact, so it was with trepidation that we saw the group arrive , and , true to form Midweek saw a Hailstorm which, fortunately, didn’t last too long at the lake, but stripped trees of all their foliage in the local town and destroyed several cars in a nearby town.
The group got off to a flying start and managed to bank 5 fish over the magical 40lb mark during the weekend, unfortunately the weather really warmed up, slowing the action and then the Hailstorm seemed to put the larger fish off the feed. Having said that , 3 of the Guys managed totals of 18 fish and over and non of the anglers blanked. 117 fish were banked in total and even one of our prized Red Carp put in an appearance . . . . .
Top of the list for numbers of fish was ‘Mainline sponsored’ Wayne Mansford, who took a creditable 24 fish from the Moorings swim. Wayne’s Haul included 12 fish over 20lb (including a beautiful 24lb fully scaled specimen), 6 over 30lb including a 36 and 39lber, and this was topped off with a 40lb 6oz cracker. Wayne’s winning method was medium range fishing (35 – 45yrds) and baiting little and often. Nice result and well deserved as the poor guy suffered a bad cold for part of the week and at one point looked like death !
New boy to the group, Lucas Dyer quickly got to grips with the lake, banking 18 fish in total, including 2 over 40lb in the first 48 hours. Fishing the Renamed swim around 70yard out brought steady action throughout the week for Lucas, and besides the 40’s, at 42lb 0oz and 44lb 4oz, he also managed a further 4 over 30 to 35lb, and 10 over 20lb. He’s already booked on next years trip and could be one of the 4 that’s already paid their deposit to organiser Phil Bevan , better get yer names down quick boys, spaces are going fast ! ! !
Worker of the week must go to Craig Anstiss who kept moving between St Tropez and S.O.S. swims (and would have done a session in the Snags too if the Churchill’s, and McVities guys hadn’t been up there every morning at Dawn till dusk !). The hard work paid off though, and Craig Logged 18 fish (tho I’m sure he told me he’d had 20) , no monsters but 11 over 20lb and 4 over 30lb making the moves worthwhile.
Me old mates Pete ‘Spotty’ Leakey and Gary Dickson aka ‘Cabbage’ were on this particular trip, fishing the Dam end, and both took 3 fish over the 30lb mark. Pete managing one of the 40lbers at 41lb 7oz while poor old Gary just can’t seem to get over that magical mark here – one day mate !
The Boys in Churchills swim, James Money and Dave Bowden , had a couple of purple patches and shared a 12 fish catch with 3 - 30lbers and new boy Dave took a P.B. 42lb 0oz lump - well done fella.
All in all , not bad for a slow week . . . Tight lines and Bent Rods . . . . . Cherpont Mick

EVERYONE A ‘WINN’ER
Week 17 saw a mixed bag of weather with very hot weather and evening thunderstorms, and heavy rain late week. The rainstorms had the desired effect , revitalising the lake as the week progressed, and the party of 10 anglers managed 75 fish in total, with 7 taking fish over the magical 40lb mark, and 5 P.B.s broken.
The Winn family turned up en-masse with Husband and wife team Darren and Naomi, and Son Martin and his new Bride Daniel taking up the Lodge front. The 3 anglers in the family (Daniel was just here for the sun) managed 24 fish in total, and all managed 40lb+ lumps. The family haul included 11 over 20lb , 8 over 30lb with Naomi taking 4 of these to just over 39lb and the 40lbers were:
Naomi - 41lb 0oz ( P.B.) , Martin - 41lb 0oz and Darren - 44lb 0oz . . . . .
Our Welsh contingent arrived for their 2nd visit of the season and 4 of the 5 guys managed 40lb+ fish with the best of the week to Andy Cross at 51lb 12oz and a new P.B from Planet swim. Andy also took 4 over 20lb and 3 over 30lb to 36lb 11oz.
Next door in ‘The Dogs’swim, Simon Dobbs took a creditable 14 fish to a best of 43lb 8oz.
Regularly baiting the 85 to 90yard bar produced a further 6 over 20lb and 6 over 30lb to 35lb 0oz.
Andy Smith also fished the lodge front in ‘Moorings’ swim and caught steadily at medium range to finish the week with 7 fish, 2 of these over the 40lb at 40lb 8oz and 42lb 4oz.
Worker of the week (he’s used to it, working in the Pot Noodle Mines !) goes to Dai Philips.
Dai started the week in Planets, but a slow start had him up and moving to Renamed where he promptly pulled out a 34lber and his weeks best at 42lb 0oz. Not content with this, and reading the weather conditions well, Dai moved to the Dam end (Niagara) for the final 2 days and pulled a further 4 fish , 3 over 30lb to 36lb , well deserved Dai .
Me, well …. A little experiment in Sleepy Hollow using 14mm baits and pellet at short (40yrds) range, produced 6 Carp in 2 nights to just over 30lb , and 4 Roach! Non under 2lb, plenty of action but I think I’ll stick to the larger baits next time ! !

TONNE UP TO 7 ANGLERS
A very sticky and humid week produced a surprising number of good fish to the seven anglers fishing with 2 of our prized 50lb+ visiting the Banks. Most of the guys were praying for a storm and a downpour which was predicted for later in the week but it never materialized , but that didn’t stop them from amassing a creditable 74 fish in total.
Mobility was again the name of the game, and Chris Belcher took full advantage of the extra space, taking 29 fish in total from no fewer than 4 different swims. 15 – 20’s , 12 over 30lb and a well deserved 52lb 4oz monster, and new P.B., from McVities swim which had recently been vacated (Doh). Poacher Chris had been taking some stick from fishing partner Mark Hobson on Chris’s inability to regularly top the 40lb mark, so he pushed passed that mark straight to the 50lb+ fish. Mark was surprisingly quiet after that!
Mark himself had managed a number of good fish prior to this with 5 over 30lb and 2 over 40lb at 41lb 3oz and a P.B. at 44lb 14oz , both from Sleepy Hollow.
Largest fish of the week fell to the rods of ‘Dangerous’ Brian Watts (that was the name on his T shirt) who banked ‘Petals’ at 58lb 0oz , a little down in weight after spawning, but he’ll soon be back over the 60lb mark. Brian also managed a further 5 fish with 3 – 20lbers and 2 over the 30lb mark to 34lb, all from Far & Away swim.
Mick Bridges managed some well earned leave from the Army after 4 tours of duty to war torn locations. Mick wasn’t here for a rest though and worked hard on several of the Far bank swims to finish the week with a 10 fish total with 8 fish over 30lb topped with a 46lb 2oz and new P.B. I’m lead to believe Mick will be fishing for the Army at Abbey Lakes later in the year, we wish him all the best for this and hope he has as good a session as this one.
All in all an excellent week, and most of the anglers had packed down by Friday dinner, to celebrate Mick Bridges birthday, and to watch our tennis hopes go down in flames, as Andy Murray lost in the Wimbledon Semi’s!
Oh well , roll on next year . . . . . . .

NORTHERN LAD ‘LEEDS’ THE WAY.
With a week of hot humid weather , and spectacular ,mid-week Thunderstorms with Hailstones the size of Golf Balls, and the anglers running for cover , its still a wonder that the lake managed to produce 13 fish over the 40lb+ mark , AND , Break the Lake record in the Process !!
Northern Monkey ‘Steve Chapman,’ (from Leeds) has been visiting the lake for several years , and has landed some impressive fish on previous visits , but the experience he’s gained all came good in one exceptional session .
Steve worked hard ,taking some good fish from ‘McVities’ swim,,before going mobile .
His return to McVities certainly paid off in the shape of a New P.B. and Lake Record 64lb 8oz (‘Parrallels’). Steve also managed fish of 45lb 0oz, 44lb 2oz , 43lb 2oz and 42lb 4oz in a 19 fish bonanza which included a further 7 – 30lb+ fish to 39lb 5oz. Well Done and well deserved Steve.
Fishing partner Ken Harris, in Moorings, did his best to keep up with his Hualing friend, and in between changing the food menu on a daily basis, managed 14 fish to a 42lb 0oz best for the week. A further 9 – 20’s and 4 – 30’s to 37lb 10oz put a smile on Ken’s face (were sure we saw one Ken).
In a mid-week purple patch at the Dam end, Glynn Robinson (one of the first people to own a caravan on the famous Waverney Valley Complex, when it was a chicken farm !) took a brace of 40lb fish at 43lb 2oz and 42lb 0oz in a 6 session from ‘Niagara’, while his mate Kev Wishart, next door in ‘Gordy’s’, hooked and lost 3 good fish – Unfinished business Kev , next time.
Up at the other end of the lake John Lyons and Martin Dansey teamed up in ‘Churchills’, and took a 40lb+ fish each along with a further 14 fish. Martin had a 42lb 12oz fish while Johns biggest weighed in at 47lb 5oz and the pair also took 6 other fish over the 30lb mark to a 39lb 4oz for John.
Young lady angler, Elle Jopson is in her early teens, but has caught some pretty impressive fish, for someone so young, in both the U.K. and abroad. Fishing alongside Dad Jason on a slow week for the pair, she still managed to bank a 44lb 2oz beauty , I.m not sure but I don’t think this is Elle’s P.B. well done Elle.
A mention about the Felton Gang, three generations to be precise, Grandad Del managed a 41lb 4oz fish from ‘Renamed’ , bettered by his son Lee who took a 48lb 4oz chunk , and Lee’s son Alf of 12yrs age also got into the fish. Doing all his own work Alf managed 5 fish, breaking his P.B. on at least 2 occasions and breaking the 30lb barrier 3 times in all to finish with a P.B. of 34lb 14oz , well done Alf, a Carp Angler in the making.

Bert’s Week
With a warm week, with changeable wind directions, and a few Thunder storms thrown in for good measure, it was inevitable that the fish would come on to spawn, but that didn’t stop the ‘Fireman’s outing’ from taking a few decent lumps , 3 over the 50lb mark in all, and a further 10 over 40lb+ made up the catch for the 6 regular visiting anglers, and they still managed 8 P.B.’s , with all but 1 angler taking fish over the 40lb+ mark . . .
Being mobile was soon obvious for the guys, and several big fish were taken quickly, after casting into unpressured areas, and resting the night spots during the day paid off. ‘Bert’ Clarke took the lions share of the fish mainly from ‘Churchills’ swim with a 22 fish haul, including 5 – 20’s , 9 – 30’s to 38lb 14oz , and 3 over the 40lb mark at 40lb 0oz , 44lb 10oz and 45lb 12oz . No P.B.’s but Clarkey has had some decent kippers from the lake in the past, and can boast some decent fish from the Walthamstow complex also.
Biggest fishes of the week goes to ‘Bert’ Gaish , fishing the Lodge bank during the day , he returned to the ‘Renamed’ swim at night to pull out a P.B. Common of 42lb 2oz , followed by a ‘New’ 50 at 50lb 12oz and P.B. for Danny in the shape of ‘ The Orange’ , first time over the 50lb mark.
Our policy is to let any angler who catches a fish, which exceeds the 50lb+ mark, to name that fish . . . . . . (thank Christ ‘the Orange’ already had a name ! ! ! (The name was to be ‘Bert’ !!))
Close behind Craig (literally!) was ‘Bert’ Payne aka Giggles, never stopped laughing, and laughed his way to the second largest fish of the week and a P.B. of 51lb 12oz taken within 1 hour of casting into unpressured swim, ‘McVities’. He returned to ‘Kermits’ swim in the evenings and managed a further 8 fish to 44lb 2oz.
‘Bert’ Foster managed a few good fish from the ‘Moorings’ swim early week and managed a P.B. 42lb 8oz , but a good move as the weather changed produced a 2nd P.B. for Kris in the ‘Swamp’ swim at 44lb 5oz, (7pm Thursday evening as I remember Kris)
Unfortunately Vocals ! was literally Rudely interrupted by the Streaker from Scarper-Carper(see the advert in C.W.) on his bike (Jamie, you didn’t do a very good job on my bike seat , it still smells ! ! ! wet wipes my? arse).
Bert Danks, and Bert Astley, were the sensible Anglers on the trip! (sorry Graig and Jamie) who fished hard and long (and sometimes Naked) during the week , Craig taking fish to 42lb 2oz and 44lb 4oz and Jamie, just short of the 4-0 with 6 fish over 30lb , 3 so close at 37lb 4oz , 38lb 0oz and 39lb.
Seriously well done to Lee, Danny, Colin, Kris, Danky and Jamie , a most enjoyable week and well deserved fish, just keep the cloths on next time! ! !
Me! after a 2 week break and a rest, managed to level the scores with John at
3 – 40lb each, though I’ve needed twice the fishing time!. . .!

Week 8 was a mixed bag of weather with a warm start which turned to rain later in the week, this brought the fish on to feed and 7 of the 9 anglers managed to bag a 40lb+ fish, and 10 P.B.’s were broken.
Best fish of the week went to regular, and Birthday Boy Dave Lamb, who, after a poor start in ‘TheDogs’ swim moved to ‘McVities’ swim and promptly pulled out a P.B. 55lb 0oz within minutes of the move. A further 6 fish with 2 – 30’s to 39lb 0oz and 2 – 40’s at 41lb 8oz and 43lb 0oz left Dave a happy man. Commenting after the 55lber Dave stated “It was fate, my Mum needed 55 for a house at Bingo but it never came up. I told her don’t worry mum I’ll get the 55 next week” which he duly did. Nice Birthday present.
Most fish of the week went to another regular Nige Ludbrook who caught steadily throughout the week in ‘T&N’ (Tooth & Nail) swim, 27 fish in all. Nige was left scratching his head early week , as he helped fellow Lodge front angler Stu Jenks land 2 early lumps (both over the 40lb mark) , but continued trickling the bait in and pulling the fish out, 10 – 30’s to 38lb 12oz and 4 over the 40lb mark including a 40lb 0oz ,
a 40lb 2oz , a P.B. Common of 42lb 2oz and topped of with a P.B. Mirror at 46lb 0oz.
New to the lake, Stu Jenks opted for ‘The Moorings’ swim and was glad he did. 2 early P.B.’s of 40lb 6oz and 49lb 11oz set Stu up for the week , and he went on to land 13 fish in all with 5 – 20’s and 5 – 30’s to 37lb 7oz . Another convert ! ! !
Regulars Alan Blackford and Tina Lazell chose ‘Sleepy Hollow’ swim for the week.. Mailine’s N.R.G. is always Alan’s Game Plan, fished at short range (40-45yrds), and as usual it produced the goods with 28 fish banked between the pair. 7 – 20’s and 12 – 30’s were taken with Tina having the lager 30’s with 3 over 37lb and both Anglers had 3 over the 40lb+ mark with Tina’s best at 42lb 10oz and Alan taking a 42lb 12oz Mirror and 2 more on the 46lb mark. The pair also brought a Rose bush and Commemorative Plack for Alan’s late partner Eileen who was also very successful on the Lake, and who sadly passed away last year. The Rose now takes pride of place in the flower bed on the Lodge front and we hope Eileens still pulling the Big fish out somewhere.
Finally a couple of further P.B.’s and 40lb+ fish , the first to new face Pete Randall, after a move to ‘Niagara’ swim, Pete saw fizzing at short range which he cast to and was duly rewarded with a 41lb 0oz Mirror , good angling Pete , and the second mention to Mike Bebb who worked hard on the far bank all week fishing several of the free swims and at the end of the week was rewarded with 2 well deserved 40lb+ fish at 44lb 12oz and a new P.B. Mirror at 48lb 8oz , Mikes fishing partner for the week Gaz Sharples did the same but just could not get over the 40lb mark. Next time Gaz , unfinished business.

WEEK 7
Mick's back...... now we get a proper catch report!!!
Week 7 saw the hot weather arrive to the region
and some late week thunder and rain but the fish were on form
with a total of 140 fish grading the bank - 15 of these over 40lb
- the week's best 48lb8oz although none of the 50lbers put in
an appearance. Most of the 40's came to the rods of regular Trevor
Anthony in Churchills (always good in the hot weather) with 4
over the 40lb mark in a 20 fish haul - 8 20's, 5 30's to 39lb8oz
and fish of 40lb 8oz, 41lb 8oz and his best of the week at 45lb.
Regulars Bob & Jackie Young kept on the move
with the weather changes, fishing 7 swims in all for a total of
36 fish - 8 20's, 21 30's with 7 over 37lb and for a change Bob
managed the larger fish at 41lb 8oz and the weeks best at 48lb
8oz - Jackie taking her weeks best at 38lb 4oz. Back to the biggies
next time Jackie.......surely a lady who deserves
a nomination for Lady Angler of the Year - she has a list of big
fish which any traveling angler would be proud of (with a PB of
well over 60lb) and unselfishly provides good advice on fishing
Cherpont via the Carp Forums (while we're on the subject of Bob
& Jackie, they have been regular anglers at Cherpont since
the beginning and have spread the reputation of Cherpont far and
wide for which I would like to thank them very much. Eddie)
We had 4 new recruits to the lake with the guys
managing to break 10 PB's between them - and all fishing with
lumps as follows:
Adam Dargan - Gordy's - 3PB's and a best 39lb8oz
Adam Whalley - Niagara - 4 PB's with 2 40's to 44lb
Chris James - with a PB of 44lb after a move to Lizards
Top of the new rods must go to Steve Priestly with
7 fish including 2 30's to 38lb, 3 over the 40lb mark, 40lb2oz,
42lb5oz and 45lb1oz, although his mates reckon the fish don't
count as he actually talked them onto the bank!!! Top angling
Steve. The Introducer of the new boy's, Dodgy Del Picton also
managed a best of just over 39lb from the Moorings.
The "West Ham" regulars managed to increase
a few PBs - 3 in all with TV star (return of the GED X) improving
both his Mirror and Common PBs to a weeks best of 47lb 10oz and
Calamity Bob Courtney, ADA Cacky, in between Birds Nest, Snap
Offs and disasters around the kitchen Tea Urn entered the "Wall
of Fame" here at Cherpont with a much awaited PB of 47lb
10oz - well done Bob, it couldn't have happened to a nicer (buy
disaster struck) guy.....
Oh, nearly forgot Dudley Dave Ayres with a fish
of 47lb 12oz (I think), with that Broad Brummy Accent, Dave could
easily be French...... we can't understand either of the languages.......
5pm Dave!!!
All photos will follow soon, unfortunately the Modem
melted in the late week electrical storm and May doesn't exist
on the French working calendar with ARmistice, Pique (May Bank
Holiday) and Ascension days and everyone French talking of the
summer holidays, it could be a while before I'm back on line.....
I think the French have got it right through, tarra for now Stress
Heads.
140 carp caught. 70 over 30lb, 39 over 35lb, 15
over 40lb, the biggest 48lb 8oz. Average weight over 30lb.
Cherpont Mick.
WEEK 6
What can we say about this week.....? Only that
the Welsh arrived - along with the rain! The biggest fish of the
week was 48.12 for Thomas Davidson.
The total of fish for the week was 84 with 2 40+
common and 10 other 40+ mirrors.
Saturday, Sunday and Monday it rained non stop which
slowed the fishing down a touch but it picked up at the back end
of the week. Out of 16 anglers, 8 achieved PBs. Top rod of the
week was Mark with 14 fish - 2 40lb+.
PS. Chiddy, wheres by back leads???
WEEK 5
Mick will be back next week. We had a good week
including one of our 50's, Arthur at 56lb but John only managed
to put 25 words down for the catch report........!
Still, here goes..... Shaun managed to bag a biggy
in the name of Arthur (because of a scar oN the gill - get it?
Arthur Scargill - well I thought it was good!)
78 carp caught, 43 over 30lb, 22 over 35lb, 9 over
40l b, 5 over 45lb - the biggest .
CHERPONT, YOUR BEST CHANCE IN FRANCE FOR A FIFTY!!!!!
WEEK 4
Mick's away for 2 weeks so sorry for the abreviated catch
report......
My 2 friends popped over for a couple of nights fishing (Friday
& Saturday). When they arrived they looked like
models from a C&A window! Anyway, the first night the
Dangerous Brothers (well Fahter & Son) managed a nice
37.5lb. After the first night in a bivvi I thought they might
appreciate dinner at a restaurant and a comfortable bed in my
house but NO, they chose the bivvi for night 2. After
retiring to my Granite bivvi (I went back to the house) at
8pm they managed 9 carp including 3 40's! We needed an early
start on Monday morning so with no shower or change of clothes there
was a bad smell on the flight home!!! Well done Barry & Mark.
Phil Court laded one of our known 50s Bruiser at a good weight
of 54.03lb.
The facts....... 180 carp caught. 104 over 30lb, 18 over 40lb and the biggest at 54.08lb.
I was nice to see our regulars the Timney Clan (3 generations of fishermen). John Timney Senior caught well including a 40+ common.
Again, not long till Mick is back so the catch report should get better.
See you all soon.
Eddie.
WEEK 3 - taking advantage of the special
price - the bargain hunters on tour!
On a week with mild, overcast weather with a warm
southerly later in the week, the guys on week 3 managed a pretty
decent tally of fish.
Top rod for the week must go to Bob Belcher, who
worked the Lodge side upper bank from Sleepy Hollow to Swamp.
Staying in touch the feeding fish all week, he managed to break
his PB twice and accumulated an impressive total of 44 fish including
13 - 20lb, 19 - 30lb and 5 fish over the 40lb mark including fish
of 40lb 12oz, 41lb 8oz, 44lb 8oz, 47lb 12oz and finally topped
off with "Petals", now back to approaching "HIS"
best weight at 61lb 6oz (that's the last time we let the anglers
name the fish (just joking fellas)).
Close on Dads heals, and actually taking a bigger
fish count, was Bob's son Chris (Belcher). No fewer than 49 fish
to this accomplished young angler who, with Angling buddy Kyle
Cordrey, used all the swims to good effect on the far bank. 21
- 20lb, 19 - 30lb to 39lb 4oz graced the net, and Chris managed
4 over the 40lb mark, 3 from Far & Away swim at 40lb 10oz,
42lb and 44lb 12oz, and the best for the week for Chris from St
Tropez swim at 45lb 12oz.
Poor Kyle got a bit of a ribbing from the father
and son team, he just could not get in touch with the better fish
and only (!) managed 19 fish with 4 over 30lb with a best of 37lb
6oz. Kyle did manage to reap revenge when Chris cast his rod tip
section into the margins. Chris was a little wary of wading out
in to the marginal silt, so got Kyle to give support with a landing
net pole, the section was dully found but Kyle seemed to keep
pushing forward with the pole. After several attempts Chris abandoned
the help and waded back unaided......
With the other anglers out on the main lake, Eddie
(the Owner) and the Bailiffs commandeered the Lodge front, and
managed 4 - 40lb+ fish. Eddie had not fished the lake seriously
in 5-6 years so did the week (and a couple of nights!) for 14
fish, with 6 over 30lb to 37lb and 2 - 40lbers, 41lb 8oz and 42lb
(his old scales only go up in hal pound divisions!) all from Moorings
swim.
John had a result in T&N with 10 fish in 3 afternoons
including 5 - 30lbers and 3 over 40lb to a best of 42lb 12oz and
an impressive average for the fish weights at over 34lb.
Mick struggled along as usual and had his 40lber
per week at 45lb 2 oz in a couple of nights, and local French
Carp angling friend Gerome had an invite for his help during the
close season, and in 2 "nights only" fishing sessions,
broke his PB with a fish of 46lb 2oz (20.95kg).
In total the lake produced 144 fish with 16 over
the 40lb mark, to a best of 61lb 6oz. 7 of the 40lbers caught
by occasional anglers so, all in all a pretty good week. After
the cold starts of the last 2 seasons and the slow results, these
early weeks this season are turning up some awesome fishing.
STOP PRES.......As I write this
report (Sunday pm) a further 5 - 40lb+ fish have been the bank!!!
WATCH THIS SPACE.....
WEEK 2
After the Dutch success on Drive & Survive the
lake slowed a little and with early week cold NE winds the going
was initially tough. Although the group of 10 did still manage
7 fish over the 40lb mark with a weeks best of 48lb 2 oz.
Chris Evans stand in, Nige "Ginger" Wilks
took 2 of the bigger lumps in a 3 fish catch from Tooth &
Nail. He managed the weeks best at 48lb 2oz and a further 40 at
41lb 2oz, all from an area baited for 3 days before fishing, top
angling!
Next door in Moorings, Jim Pocock took the same,
with 3 fish to 41lb 8oz and a new PB both guys were on the Trigga,
over pellet and corn.
The Drive & Survive boys managed 12 fish between
them and they all took 40lb+ fish, all coming within 20 minutes
of each other. Nick Stewart (41lb 6oz and 41lb 2oz), Ricky William
(45lb 8oz) and Darren Lee (46lb) fishing beyond the baited areas
paying off. Unfortunately they had to leave mid-week but were
already planning a return trip with a full party, the words "dogs
dangly bits" were mentioned.
Finally, a report on "the traveling man",
"relief bailiff" Rob McIntyre had his last session for
what could be quite a while! Robs baby girl is due in 4 weeks
so the guy swapped from week 6 to 2, now that's dedication. Dragging
fishing, and work friend Alan Jones around the Lake a possible
5 times (probably nearer 7), they worked hard for the 8 fish between
them, both anglers taking fish to 30lb+ to a best of Robs 33lber.
From all at Cherpont, al the anglers that have met
you and the guys here, we wish you all the best, and we will see
you soon, and that God there might be a few swims left for the
rest of us to fish!!!
Amazing Fishing at Cherpont - report provided by Mick
the Bailiff .....photos to follow!
With temperatures touching 22 deg during the days and 3 warm
days prior to their arrival, the Dutch guys were hopeful of a
good session, but the week that followed was one of the best at
Cherpont in at least 3 years!!
259 carp were landed during the week of which 37 were over the
magical 40lb+ mark. 12 fish were over 45lb and 4 of the sought
after 50's graced the net, including Parallels, Bruiser and Arthur
all of which are nearing their previous PB's after the marathon
spawning of last year.
Top of the list was trip organizer and www.carpmania.nl entrepreneur
Frenk and fishing partner Adri, taking 57 fish from Sleepy Hollow.
Their list included 22 30's, 16 40's (3 of these over 45lb) and
2 of the weeks 4 50lb+ fish with Bruiser at 53lb 14oz and a final
night whopper with Parallels at 59lb 6oz. The total weight of
their haul was an incredible 1,961lb (891kg) and an average fish
size of 34lb 6oz. Mick had to spend an evening or 2 in the swim
just to verify that the numbers they were catching were for real.......
(Frenk used to work as a top chef and The Cuisine was exceptional
(plus the organizer looked after the alcohol too!!))
Ruud and Michael managed 63 carp from an on-form Churchills swim
with 17 fish over 30lb and 3 over 40lb and 2 of these just breaking
the 45lb mark. The total weight of the catch (some 733 kg) fell
well short of the total weight of Ruuds substantial fishing equipment!
Across the lake in Swamp, new comers to the Carpmania trips Henkie
and Johan enjoyed a 44 fish haul. 14 30's and 3 over the 40lb
mark including Arthur at 52lb 12oz, the guys commented that in
all the years they've been fishing, they have never experienced
action of this calibre.......they are currently begging, bribing
and/or threatening physical violence to get to the next trip in
October!!!
Tony and Henk in Renamed swim caught steadily as always, and
as always ended the week with a shed full! 50 carp in call, with
16 30's and 9 over 40lb, one just short of 50 at 49lb 8oz and
an as yet unidentified 55lb fish......watch this space.
Lastly (gulp) I'd better mention brothers Rick and trip sponsor
Gerrit for the 24 30lb+ and 3 40lb+ fish in their 38 fish catch,
not least as Gerrit is one of the top kick-boxing, cage fighters
in Holland - and a nicer guy you couldn't wish to meet - well
done boys.
Tight lines............ Cherpont Mick.
FIRST DRIVE & SURVIVE OF 2009
HARSH CONDITIONS........ I flew to the lake on Sunday, really
pleased to land, very turbulent conditions! The fishing conditions
wasn't much better. Hailing wind, blowing towards the dam wall
and horizontal rain made the fishing conditions tough! As with
all carp fishing, location being the hardest. Lionel, fishing
Gordies, dropped straight on the fish and managed 3 on the first
night including 2 30's. Kevin, fishing Moorings, fished hard for
1 carp of 36lb. Father and son Fox, fishing New Swim opposite
Ken's, managed a stunning 48.5lb mirror as well as a lovely 36lb
mirror.
CHERPONT, YOUR BEST CHANCE IN FRANCE...... Spaces still
